The NSS Unit of Tunga Mahavidyalaya, Thirthahalli, commemorated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on 2 October 2026. The programme commenced with floral tributes to the portraits of the two national leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Management President Sri M. N. Ramesh highlighted Gandhi’s sacrifices, simplicity, and message of peace and non-violence. He also praised Shastri’s honesty and leadership and encouraged today’s youth to follow their ideals. Principal Dr. R. Kumaraswamy said that the true tribute to Gandhi and Shastri lies in practising simplicity, honesty, discipline, and cleanliness in everyday life.
As part of Gandhi Jayanti, the NSS Unit also organised a Shramadaana cleanliness activity. Participants cleaned the surroundings, putting Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness and service into practice.
IQAC Coordinator Dr. M. Nagaraj and Principal of Tunga PU Residential College, Sri Prakash C., were present on the dais. NSS Programme Officer Dr. Ramesh welcomed the gathering, while Sri Mohan Kumar delivered the vote of thanks. Kumari Nayana, a second-year B.A. student, compered the programme. Faculty members and students participated actively in the celebration.
