The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides students at school, college, and university levels with opportunities to participate in community service and gain practical experience through service-oriented activities.
The NSS was introduced in 1969 with the objective of developing a sense of social responsibility among young people through active participation in community service.
"Not Me But You"
The NSS motto reflects the spirit of selfless service and the importance of considering the welfare of society alongside individual interests. Through NSS activities, students learn to understand different perspectives, work with communities, and contribute to the well-being of society.
The NSS symbol is based on the Rath Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha. The wheel represents the cycle of creation, preservation, and release, symbolising continuity and change and the NSS commitment to social transformation. The eight bars of the wheel represent the twenty-four hours of a day. Red represents the energy, vitality, and enthusiasm of young volunteers, while navy blue represents the cosmos and the volunteer's contribution to the welfare of humanity.
To develop qualities of character, courage, commandership, Discipline, Leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and ideal of self-less series among the youth to make them useful citizens.
To create a human resources organized trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of his life, including in armed forces and always available for the services of the Nation.

The Rangers and Rovers units at Tunga Mahavidyalaya are part of Bharat Scouts and Guides at the college level — Rangers for young women, Rovers for young men — building discipline, community service, outdoor skills, and leadership among student volunteers. The Tunga Rangers Unit conducts training camps, service activities, and outdoor programmes through the academic year, alongside participation in state and national scouting events.
The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention programme designed to harness the energy of youth in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The club focuses on educating students about risk reduction and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Through seminars, rallies, and interactive sessions, it works to eliminate the social stigma associated with the disease.
To create a socially conscious and healthy youth community that is well-informed and proactive in preventing HIV/AIDS — a society where every student acts as an ambassador of health and empathy, ensuring a life of dignity for all, working toward zero new infections through accurate knowledge and responsible attitudes.
To inspire students to become peer educators and community leaders in health awareness, and to foster a non-judgemental environment that promotes behavioural change for a safe and healthy future.

The Red Cross unit at the college is part of the Indian Red Cross Society's youth wing, engaging students in humanitarian service, health awareness, first aid training, and disaster preparedness. The unit organises voluntary blood donation camps, building a compassionate community of young donors and encouraging a habit of service among students.
The Sports Club is dedicated to promoting a healthy sporting culture among students and encouraging active participation in physical activities. It helps students develop teamwork, coordination, and mutual understanding among individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, while instilling discipline, sportsmanship, and strong values through participation in various sports and games.
