About the Department:

The Department of History was started with the introduction of History as one of the major subjects for B.A. students in the college during the academic year 1974-75. To begin with, it had just fourteen students and one teacher. In the course of time, with the help and cooperation of the college management, the principals and the concerned staff members the Department of History has been developed as the biggest department along with the Department of Economics among the humanities in the college.

At present, the Department of History has three full-time lecturers and more than four hundred students. History has become almost a common subject for all B.A. students. It is fully equipped with a departmental library consisting of more than eight thousand books, journals, and historical maps.

The details of the staff members who have been serving in the department are as follows.

Dr. S. Thimmaiah Naidu, Professor and Head of the Department:
He has been serving in the department right from the beginning. He was mainly responsible for the introduction of history as one of the major subjects for B.A. students in the college; He did research work on the 17th Century Wodeyors of Mysore under the faculty improvement program in the department of studies and research in History, Manasagangotri, University of Mysore and obtained Ph.D. in the year 1989. He presented a number of research papers at state and National level seminars.

Prof. D.S. Somashekar:
He has been serving in the department since 1981. He is a writer and an artist. He attended seminars and conferences at national and international levels and presented the papers. Some of his articles have been published in “India Today” Magazine.
Being an artist, he acted in dramas and T.V Serials

Prof. Surya Nayak:
He has been serving in the department since 1983.

Sri Nanjundappa:
At present, he is a commissioner in the Department of Labour, Bangalore. He served in the Department of History as a lecturer from 1976 to 1982 before joining KAS.

Tunga Mahavidyalaya

Tunga Mahavidyalaya (Kannadaತುಂಗಾ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ) is located at the foothills of Anandagiri in Thirthahalli Town. Tunga Mahavidyalaya “is the offspring of” Tunga Vidyavardhaka Sangha – an association of the philanthropists. Located in the outskirts of Tirtahalli city, near Tudaki. College gets more and more attracted with the greenery that welcomes you with a freshness vibe. PUC, Under Graduation and Post Graduation courses are available in this college. Campus is included with Canteen, Xerox outlet, Sports complex, playground, library and auditorium.
