The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Tunga Mahavidyalaya promotes physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork and active participation in sports among students.
The college provides facilities for outdoor games and athletics, along with facilities for indoor games. Students are encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate, university, state and national-level competitions. Over the years, students of the college have represented the institution and Kuvempu University in various sporting events and have earned recognition in athletics, volleyball, badminton, powerlifting, weightlifting and other disciplines.

Tunga Mahavidyalaya provides facilities for a variety of outdoor and indoor sports and games.
The college has playground facilities for activities including:
Students use these facilities for regular practice, college-level activities and preparation for competitive events.

Students are encouraged to make regular use of these facilities for fitness, recreation and competitive preparation.
Students interested in sports are encouraged to participate in regular practice and training. Selected students represent the college in inter-collegiate and Kuvempu University competitions and may progress to zonal, state and national-level events. The department also conducts sports activities and the Annual Sports Day to encourage wider student participation and recognise outstanding performance.
Students who achieved recognition at the national level in sports during 2025–26 were felicitated on 5 May 2026.
Medals were also presented on this date to the winners of the college’s Annual Sports Day events held on 10 and 11 April 2026.
Students of Tunga Mahavidyalaya secured two first places, one second place and one third place at the Kuvempu University Inter-College Athletics Championship for men and women, held from 22 to 24 April 2026.

Tunga Mahavidyalaya hosted a coaching camp for the Kuvempu University Women’s Softball Team from 6 to 10 February 2026. Fifteen students participated in the camp, led by Dr. Sujan G. B., Physical Education Director.
An inter-university coaching camp for the Kuvempu University Women’s Softball Team was conducted from 30 January to 2 February 2026. Dr. Sujan G. B., Physical Education Director of Tunga Mahavidyalaya, led the team.
Tunga Mahavidyalaya’s men’s softball team emerged as champions at the Kuvempu University Inter-College Men’s Softball Tournament, held at NES Institute of Advanced Studies, Shivamogga, on 21 and 22 January 2026. Twelve students represented the college in the tournament.
A taluk-level sports meet was held on 17 January 2026 under the aegis of Mera Yuva Bharath, Shivamogga.
Tunga Mahavidyalaya hosted a coaching camp for the Kuvempu University Women’s Volleyball Team from 15 to 19 December 2025. Fifteen students participated in the camp, led by Dr. Sujan G. B., Physical Education Director.
An inter-university coaching camp for the Kuvempu University Women’s Volleyball Team was conducted from 10 to 13 December 2025. Dr. Sujan G. B., Physical Education Director of Tunga Mahavidyalaya, led the team.
Kuvempu University organised a felicitation ceremony at Jnanasahyadri, Shankaraghatta, on 10 December 2025 to honour Sudeep for winning a gold medal in high jump. He was coached by Dr. Sujan G. B.
The Khelo India University Games were held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, from 24 November to 5 December 2025, with participation from universities across India.
Tunga Mahavidyalaya organised a two-day Tunga Premier League cricket tournament at the college ground during 2025–26. The inter-class tournament included seven boys’ teams, one faculty team and five girls’ teams.
A National Sports Day programme was recorded among the college’s sports activities for 2025–26 on 3 November 2025.
A special badminton coaching camp for Tunga Mahavidyalaya students was conducted from 19 August to 1 September 2025 at the synthetic badminton court of Town Club, Thirthahalli.
Tunga Mahavidyalaya celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day on 21 June 2025.
The Principal extended best wishes to the college’s sportspersons participating in inter-university competitions during the academic year 2025–26.
During the academic year 2024–25, five students of Tunga Mahavidyalaya were selected to participate in South Zone and All India Inter-University competitions.
Students who represented Tunga Mahavidyalaya in sporting events and won medals and awards were felicitated during Graduation Day on 15 May 2025. Winners of the college’s Annual Sports Day competitions were also awarded during the programme.
The Inter-College Men’s Volleyball Tournament was held on 13 and 14 May 2025.
Four students represented Tunga Mahavidyalaya at the Inter-College Men’s and Women’s Powerlifting and Weightlifting Competitions held at Government First Grade College, Tarikere, from 8 to 10 May 2025. Three students won medals, and the women’s team emerged as champions in both powerlifting and weightlifting.
Tunga Mahavidyalaya hosted the Kuvempu University Women’s Softball Team coaching camp from 25 to 28 April 2025. Fifteen students participated in the camp, led by Dr. Sujan G. B., Physical Education Director.
Students of Tunga Mahavidyalaya participated in volleyball and tennikoit at the Inter-College Women’s Meet organised by Government First Grade College, Shivamogga, on 22 and 23 April 2025.
The college conducted its Annual Sports Day events on 5 and 12 April 2025. Students participated in class-wise competitions, with volleyball, tug of war and cricket for men, and throwball, tug of war and cricket for women.
Winners received their awards during Graduation Day on 15 May 2025.
